Older people enjoy a brew and a boogie at Dundee Festive Tea Dance

Posted: December 14, 2017

Over 80 older people from across Dundee were treated to hot drinks, sweet and savoury snacks, and a dance to some old favourites at a special festive event held in Menzieshill Community Centre yesterday.

The Festive Tea Dance was free to attend and organised by staff from Hillcrest Housing Association, Helping Older People Engage, DialOp, Royal Voluntary Service and Community Cars Dundee.

Hillcrest’s Community Engagement Worker, Maureen McLay said: “It was fantastic to see so many older people enjoy themselves at this fun and engaging event.”

“For many older people Christmas can be a lonely time of year so we are extremely grateful to the individuals and business who made this event possible by donating their time and items.”

“We would like to thank Clarks Bakery for donating 100 sausage rolls, Scotmid for donating food and cakes, Poundstretcher who kindly supplied the Christmas crackers and DC Thomson for donating magazines.

“It was also fantastic to be supported by Dundee City Council and a few of the local schools and nurseries, who donated cups, Christmas cards and decorations for the party bags.”

Also in the party bags where torches supplied through a Dundee Integrated Care Small Grants Fund and information packs providing a useful guide on what support services are available to older people in and around Dundee.

The party-goers also enjoyed live music from Wayne and the Def Hubs Choir.
