New smoke alarm legislation – have you had yours fitted?

Posted: January 6, 2022

Scottish legislation has changed and by February 2022 all homes must have an interlinked fire and smoke alarm system as well as carbon monoxide protection. Any tenants yet to have these systems installed will be contacted soon.

This new legislation was introduced in February 2019 to make homes safer.

By February, all homes should have smoke alarms in each circulation space such as hallways and landings, and in the room most frequently used during the daytime. Heat alarms should be installed in kitchens, and carbon monoxide alarms must be fitted where there is a fuel burning appliance or a flue.

With the deadline fast approaching, we’re contacting tenants who haven’t yet had this work carried out and as a tenant, there’s nothing you need to do other than ensure we get access to install these systems. If you’re worried that you may have been missed, or if you have any questions, please contact us on 0300 1232640.
