MoonWalk raises money!

Posted: July 3, 2017

Annalisa and Sheree from Gowrie Care’s St John’s service recently took part in the MoonWalk Scotland event in Edinburgh.

Here’s what Annalisa had to say about this great event:

“It was a mild evening in Holyrood Park complete with an army of pink tutus, zebra stripes, leopard prints, jungle leaves, led lights and a giant inflated bra… No, we weren’t dreaming, Sheree and I were heading to the gathering point for the MoonWalk Scotland 2017.

“The atmosphere was amazing with lots of positive energy, group warm ups, music and very emotional moments.

“All suited and booted with our “Jungle Safari themed” bras and outfits, we strolled 13 miles through the park.

“At 4am, while the moon was reflecting on St Margaret’s Loch, we hit mile 13 and finished the trek.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are delighted to raise over £500 for a great cause.”

The event started in 1996 when just 13 women powerwalked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

In the last 4 years, the MoonWalk Scotland has raised over £9 million for the Breast Cancer Institute in Edinburgh and many other NHS Hospitals throughout Scotland.

The ladies participated as part of the Hillcrest Group’s 50 Grand to Lend a Hand staff challenge.

With 50 Grand to Lend a Hand, part of the Hillcrest Housing Association’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, Hillcrest staff from across Scotland are putting on various events to raise a total of £50,000 for a range of charities and good causes.
