Mental Health Peer Support in Angus

Posted: September 15, 2020

Our mental health peer support service offers one-to-one confidential support and advice as well as group support.

Hillcrest Futures has recently been commissioned by Angus Health & Social Care Partnership to provide a mental health and wellbeing peer support service in GP surgeries across North Angus.

Our peer workers each have their own lived experience of mental health and wellbeing so can relate to individuals who are still struggling with their own challenges. They can share the tips, tools and strategies which have been useful for them, and provide hope to others as they show it is possible to grow, learn and have a fulfilling life while still coping with significant, and sometimes lifelong, health challenges.

The photo above shows some of our team who have recently completed Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training.

One of our peer workers, Kelly Christie, had her story of recovery recently featured in The Courier. Fourteen years ago Kelly had a life-changing brain injury in a car crash which turned her life upside down. She suffered from seizures and tiredness as well as depression.

After many years of perseverance and determination, Kelly has made a remarkable recovery and now works in our mental health peer support team, helping others overcome their own challenges. Click here to read the full article.

Our service is available in GP practices in Forfar, Kirriemuir, Edzell, Brechin and Montrose. Phone support is also available.
