Get set for Hillcrest Enterprises’ newest arrival – Oor Wullie!

Posted: June 5, 2019

Oor Wullie’s Bucket Trail will be coming back this June and this time it’s bigger than ever, taking place across five host cities – Dundee, Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Organised by The Archie Foundation, and running for 11 weeks from 17th June – 30th August 2019, Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail will be Scotland’s first ever national art trail, and we’re delighted to have oor very own Wullie! While the full design is under wraps until launch day on the 17th, we’ve got two sneak peak images below – can you guess how the design may look?

The statue, which is being sponsored by our newly launched company Hillcrest Enterprises will be titled ‘Jute, Jam and Journalism’, and will be located outside Malmaison in Dundee City Centre. The design pays homage to the three key exports ingrained into Dundee’s industrial heritage.

The design was created by local artist Geoff Gunning, who has worked in the city’s games industry for 25 years. Speaking about the project, Geoff said: “I’ve always been a huge fan of the bucket and penguin trails, so I couldn’t have been more chuffed when I heard that my design had been picked up. I can’t wait to get him in place!”

Director of Hillcrest Enterprises, Stuart Dow added: “Hillcrest Enterprises was officially launched on the 1st of April following the merger of Northern Housing Company with our existing commercial trading subsidiary.”

“Looking to hit the ground running, and with the BIG Bucket Trail soon to take centre stage across Scotland, sponsoring a statue made perfect sense in helping put Hillcrest Enterprises in the spotlight while also supporting this incredible and worthwhile community art project.”

The BIG Bucket Trail will culminate in a series of Farewell Events and nationwide auctions in each of the host cities.

This public art trail aims to unite the country as it raises awareness and vital funds for Scotland’s children’s hospitals, including Tayside Children’s Hospital.

Our Hillcrest Enterprises Oor Wullie statue and the artist who created him will be unveiled very soon, so make sure you keep a look out for updates.
