Dundee fundraising team kicks up cash for horse riding charity

Posted: July 21, 2017

A team of fundraisers visited The Brae Riding for the Disabled to hand over money from recent fundraising activities and to get a tour of the centre earlier this week.

The Late Developers team from Hillcrest Housing Association’s development department raised £1,775 by hosting a walking football tournament in June.

Mary Sneddon, centre manager at The Brae said: “Everyone at The Brae feels very lucky to be the chosen charity for the development team at Hillcrest.

“We cannot thank the team enough for taking the time and effort to raise this amazing amount of money which will help us to continue to deliver this worthwhile and very beneficial service to the disabled community.”

The centre provides riding, carriage driving and vaulting lessons to around 95 children and adults each week.

Some of the benefits of attending the centre include improved balance and coordination, fine and gross motor skills, and communication.

Hillcrest projects officer, David Ralston said: “It is fantastic to be able to support such a unique and important charity.

“We had a great day for the tournament with 12 teams competing and in the end Persimmon Homes saw off Ogilvie Construction to take home the trophy.

“An auction and a raffle were held alongside the main event and helped us to raise such a great amount.”

The money was raised as part of the Hillcrest Group’s 50 Grand to Lend a Hand staff challenge.

With 50 Grand to Lend a Hand, part of the Hillcrest Housing Association’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, Hillcrest staff from across Scotland are putting on various events to raise a total of £50,000 for a range of charities and good causes.
