Covid-19 and bin collections – some helpful updates
With the current Covid-19 situation, many of the services we regularly make use of have been disrupted, minimised or put on hold – one of these being household waste collection.
To help keep you updated, we’ve put together some useful information about how your local waste collection has changed.
Each council is endeavouring to maintain household waste collection services, but they are noting that some collection routes may be missed or cut short. In addition, some councils will not be collecting recycling or brown bins, so please check the links below to see what is being collected in your area.
As recycling centres are closed across the country, you are also requested that certain items such as gas cylinders, gas bottle, batteries and other potentially hazardous items are not placed within your household waste for collection.
Uplift of special items has been suspended, but uplifts already paid for will currently be honoured by some councils – but please check with your local authority to double check, as this may change.
The councils have also put special guidance in place for those showing symptoms of Covid-19. If this applies to you or someone in your household, you are asked to double bag rubbish and keep it within your home for 72 hours before putting it out for collection.
Please also note, as the councils are in emergency mode, they will generally not be dealing with enquiries such as missing, replacement or additional bins, so please wait until the Covid-19 situation improves before contacting your local council about this.
