Strengthening Social Enterprises in Dundee

Social Enterprises in Dundee were today given a financial boost from Hillcrest Housing Association. Derek Marshall, chair of the Dundee Social Enterprise Network (DSEN), accepted a cheque for £5000 on behalf of the network to support their work in developing enterprises throughout Dundee.

On receiving the cheque Derek Marshall commented that, “As the social enterprise movement continues to grow and develop in Dundee, DSEN will increasingly provide support and guidance to the businesses we work with. Such a generous donation from Hillcrest goes a long way to help us provide our members with information and knowledge and sustain a network that allows them to share, learn and create opportunities.

“The nature of social enterprises means that we’re often looking at innovative ways of working to provide services to our communities and make a difference to the people’s lives we work with. The network is going to be an important tool to organisations working in this area, allowing them to learn from others and access training and resources they may not have internally.”

The network was formally constituted in 2011 and will develop social enterprises in Dundee through sharing good practice, providing peer support, developing trading links, raising awareness of social enterprise and facilitating training.

When presenting the cheque, Fiona Morrison, Hillcrest Director of Housing commented that “Hillcrest and our subsidiary company CraigOwl Communities are involved in a number of social enterprises providing money advice, skills for employment, help back into work and help with sustaining tenancies to people in Dundee. DSEN is going to be an invaluable network to develop this area of work so we are delighted to be supporting them with a donation.”
