Housing Association News
ISO 14001
Hillcrest Housing Association is proud to be the first Scottish RSL to be registered to ISO 14001 demonstrating their environmental commitment. ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard and Hillcrest’s registration shows that they have an effective Environmental Management System in place and are committed to preventing pollution in all forms, complying with all relevant environmental regulations and striving for continual improvements.
John Mulloy, Hillcrest Group Chief Executive, said “We are delighted to have achieved registration to ISO 14001 which will hopefully demonstrate how serious we are about environmental issues and the impact our work has. In 2005 we were the first Scottish Housing Association to appoint a dedicated full time Sustainability Officer who then went on to develop a sustainability policy and action plans for each of our departments. ISO 14001 has allowed us to effectively structure our plans and determine what our focus should be. New plans are now being drawn up for 2008/09 which will concentrate on reducing waste and energy use.”
Mark Weglarski, Hillcrest Sustainability Adviser, added that “Since we started the registration process tenant and staff levels of concern for the environment have increased. It’s great to see more people looking at their daily activities and the impact they have on the environment. We’ve carried out a number of training events and activities and these will continue.”
Hillcrest’s registration to ISO 14001 means that they will be annually audited and will therefore have to set continual improvement targets and demonstrate their environmental commitment.
