Creativity and Innovation at Hillcrest
Six S2 pupils from Morgan Academy are working in partnership with Hillcrest Housing Association staff to enhance their powers of creativity and innovation. The Go4SET programme is a new Engineering Development Trust initiative designed to stimulate the interest of young people in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET).
The pupils’ 10 week placement was kicked off yesterday with a visit to Hillcrest’s headquarters and a site visit to Hillcrest’s James Street development featuring eco friendly initiatives. With the guidance and support from Hillcrest staff the pupils will now set about designing their own Eco Hotel.
Mark Weglarski, Hillcrest Sustainability Adviser, commented that “We were able to show them designs and a model of our planned eco friendly headquarters. Out and about at our developments illustrated some of the design elements in practice. Hopefully they will be able to apply some of these principles to their projects.”
Bruce Leslie, Hillcrest Contracts Officer, added that “By providing the young people with a real project we will raise their awareness of exciting career opportunities available in science, engineering and technology. Second year is a key stage in their education and hopefully we can inspire them to choose courses in these areas.”
