Hillcrest Raises their Rent by 3.3%

In consultation with their tenants, Hillcrest Housing Association has agreed to raise their rent by 3.3% this year, well over 1% lower than inflation.

Fiona Morrison, Director of Housing for Hillcrest, explains that “Although we have had to increase rents we are happy to be able to keep the rate at 3.3% over all of our stock. We will continue to offer good quality accommodation and have not had to make any cuts to the services we offer our tenants. We will continue to work on improving the services we offer in all of our areas of operation.

“We had to take into account various factors including an increase in VAT rates, increased costs of new borrowings and the requirement to fund future investment in existing stock to ensure compliance with Scottish Housing Quality Standard.”

In carrying out their consultation, Hillcrest was pleased to receive a number of positive comments from tenants, showing that the people living in their properties understand the need for the increase.

“The rent goes up every year, I don’t mind too much as we get a good service.”

“I am quite happy with the increase as you gave me such a lovely new kitchen.”
