Hillcrest Celebrate New Development

The Minister for Housing, Keith Brown, was on hand today to welcome tenants to their new homes at Hillcrest’s latest development at London Road, Edinburgh.

John Mulloy, Hillcrest Group Chief Executive and Keith Brown met with a number of tenants who have recently moved in.

John Mulloy commented that “Hillcrest is delighted in these difficult times to deliver affordable rented housing in Edinburgh. This development contributes to meeting pressing housing needs in the city by delivering high quality homes. The demand for affordable housing is so large just now that it is only through partnership working such as on this project between Hillcrest, local contractors, City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government that we can jointly deliver projects like London Road.

“As well as providing quality homes to our tenants, the development also benefits from excellent transport links and easy, local access to shops and other amenities.”

The flats are built on the site of the former Methodist Church on Lower London Road which had closed and fallen into disrepair. The building is bold architecturally with 6 storeys of blue brick, natural timber cladding and rendered finishes along with large areas of glazing to break up the large scale of the building. Accommodation provides generous room proportions with a mixture of single and dual aspect flats. Those with a southerly aspect benefit from balconies, along with all four flats on the top floor.

Minister for Housing, Keith Brown commented that “Everyone in Scotland should live in a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs and contributes to a sustainable community.

“Investment in new affordable housing, such as this development by Hillcrest, can boost our economy through the direct impact on construction and related jobs, as well as making homes available for families and individuals.”
