Disability Equality Duty

The Disability Equality Duty became law on 4/12/06 and comprises General and Specific Duties. RSLs such as Hillcrest HA are only required to fulfil the General Duty, which is not to discriminate against disabled persons and to promote equality of opportunities.

However Hillcrest Group has already done more than the General Duty and so far has written to identified disabled tenants and employees asking for volunteers to sit on the disabled tenants’ forum. Unfortunately owing to a lack of interest, the forum has been shelved. However, a DED web blog will be available from the Hillcrest website in December 2006.

One of the fundamental requirements of the General Duty is to set a draft DED Action Plan. This will set out the key actions that HHA will take to promote disability equality over the next 3 years of the action plan.

Action Plan
