Communities Minister Visits Project
Rhona Brankin, Scottish Executive Communities Minister, visited one of Hillcrest Housing Association’s city projects to tackle homelessness. Burnside Mill, off Brook Street, has been converted by Hillcrest Housing Association into 20 single person flats to provide temporary accommodation and an advice centre for homeless people.
In March 2005 Hillcrest Housing Association entered into an agreement with Dundee City Council to convert Burnside Mill to form a direct access hostel to provide temporary accommodation for homeless people. Now that the development is open, The Salvation Army manages a programme of intensive support to residents who have been assessed as needing skills developed to equip them to sustain a tenancy of their own in the future.
Rhona Brankin said she had been keen to see the project and had been very impressed with it.
