Bio Blitz at Trottick Ponds
Hillcrest staff and their families, amongst others, were out in force on Sunday (May 30), taking part the Bio Blitz ‘Wild Day Out’. The event was held at Dundee’s Trottick Ponds, where there were fun activities for all ages. Hillcrest Housing Association helped to fund the day.
The afternoon was held in conjunction with BBC Springwatch and there were several wildlife experts on hand providing interesting and entertaining information on the surrounding wildlife. The focus of the day was biodiversity; a term which describes the diversity of plants, animals and insects within nature and how they interact.
Hillcrest’s Health, Safety and Sustainability Coordinator, Janice Fraser, stated that “it’s great to have a subject like biodiversity communicated in such a fun and accessible way. The day really helped to get what biodiversity was all about across to a young audience.” One of the Hillcrest kids at the event, Rebecca Jamieson, added “I had a great time, it was fun pond dipping and finding lots of animals.”
