Go4SET Awards

Hillcrest Housing Association recently sponsored St John’s High School in the Go4SET programme. Go4SET links teams of S2 pupils with companies and universities to offer a 10 week science, engineering and technology experience. Pupils complete a project designed to raise their awareness and interest in the aforementioned industries.

Mentored by Janice Fraser, Hillcrest’s Health, Safety and Sustainability Coordinator, the six pupils from St John’s visited design and printing consultants H B Rutherford to get an insight into waste management and recycling. Pupils were also asked to research waste management and recycling for a presentation which was delivered on Friday 12th March at the Go4SET Dundee’s Celebration and Assessment Day held in the University of Dundee’s Dalhousie Building.

The pupils from St John’s delivered an insightful and attention grabbing presentation however they were picked to the post when it came to the prize giving; with the Innovation Award and the award for Best Overall Project being presented to Harris Academy and Braeview Academy respectfully. Janice Fraser commented that “although we didn’t win everyone involved had a fantastic day. It was great to communicate Hillcrest’s dedication to the issue of sustainability to a new audience and to work with young people who are enthusiastic towards the issue of recycling.”
