Opening of Latest Gowrie Care Project

The opening of Gowrie Care’s Southside project in Glasgow took place last week.
The project has only been made possible through partnership working with Gowrie Care Ltd, Glasgow City Council and Southside Housing Association.

The service has facilities for 8 women who will be supported to live in their own tenancies by Gowrie Care staff after many years of living in homeless accommodation. Damian McGowan, Gowrie Care Managing Director commented that “Staff and tenants are very excited about the opportunity this will bring to people to live a different lifestyle where they can be supported and choose to have privacy or socialise as they see fit. The way the project has been designed allows women to make these choices with the security of staff in the background as required. We are very pleased to have worked in partnership with Glasgow City Council, - Development and Regeneration Services for some of the funding and Glasgow Homelessness Partnership who commissioned the project, and Southside Housing Association to make this project happen.”

The official opening was undertaken by Councillor Elaine MacDougall who said ” This is another example of the continued partnership working between Glasgow City Council, housing providers and the care sector who provide the 24 hour support to the project. This project provides a valuable stepping stone for women who have experienced homelessness over a long period of time and allows them to move into good quality accommodation with 24hours support on site.”

The event was also an opportunity for staff from a number of agencies to see the finished project and meet members of the Gowrie team and residents who will benefit from the support.
