Scottish Home Awards
Hillcrest Housing Association is delighted to have been short listed in 2 categories for the Scottish Home Awards 2009.
For the second year running, Hillcrest has been nominated in the affordable housing development of the year category. Hillcrest’s development at Gilmour’s Close, Grassmarket, Edinburgh is an excellent example of how architecturally historic buildings can be made energy efficient through the appropriate use of new technologies. Emma Hutchison, Hillcrest Development Manager commented that “With Gilmour’s Close being a listed building in a world heritage site, the refit and the rehabilitation of the development faced particular difficulties. This project specifically tackled the difficult task of refurbishing an existing building to minimise CO2 emissions and dependency on non-renewable energy. We are very proud of the end result and are pleased to be able to offer affordable housing in one of Edinburgh’s most picturesque and vibrant areas.”
As well as development of the year, Hillcrest has been recognised as one of the leading housing associations in Scotland and has been short listed in the Housing Association of the Year category. John Mulloy, Hillcrest Group Chief Executive commented that “Just to be recognised as one of the top 5 Housing Associations in Scotland is a great achievement for Hillcrest staff and everyone involved in the work that we do. We are looking forward to the awards ceremony itself and hope that we can be successful in one of the categories.”
An awards ceremony will take place on Friday 26th June in Edinburgh where the winners will be announced.
