Hillcrest Tackle Anti- Social Behaviour

Hillcrest Housing Association is committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and recently held a meeting for representatives from their tenants’ groups and people on their consultation register for this purpose.

Nearly 30 tenants turned out at Discovery Point, Dundee for a day of information, group discussion and feedback. Neil McKnight, Hillcrest Area Housing Manager commented that “this open day was a way of illustrating our commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour to our tenants. It was great to see a number of people on the day and get their thoughts and feedback on how we are doing, and how we could improve. Anti-social behaviour is always an issue for tenants so to sit down with a group and explain our obligations on the matter, what actions are available to us for dealing with it and get their priorities was a worthwhile exercise.”

Presentations were given by senior Hillcrest staff, Bob Ballantine from the Dundee mediation team, Gillian Lamb form the Anti Social Behaviour Team and Shirley Evans from Solicitors T C Young. Tenants were interested to hear the various methods of dealing with anti social behaviour and actions available to Hillcrest.

The group session was an opportunity for staff, tenants and anti-social behaviour experts to sit down and discuss what everyone’s priorities were, how effective Hillcrest’s current procedures were and what the future should hold.

Neil McKnight commented that “it might not always look like we are tackling anti-social behaviour, it can be a long drawn out process. Educating and involving tenants has helped them to understand that we do proactively deal with cases of anti-social behaviour. The group work and feedback given in the afternoon was very useful and as always will be fundamental in influencing our review and update of the anti-social behaviour policy.”
