Hillcrest Successful in Planning Appeal

The Scottish Government Reporter appointed to decide on Hillcrest’s planning application for a new office building in Dundee’s Technology Park has found in the Association’s favour and granted planning permission.

The original application was rejected by Dundee Council’s Planning Committee, against the recommendations of the Planning Officers, over concerns about the proposed use of a small scale biomass boiler.

The main issues in the appeal were whether the proposals were consistent with the Council’s development plan and whether an exception to the provisions of the plan was justified by other material considerations.

John Mulloy, Hillcrest Group Chief Executive said, “The positive outcome vindicates Hillcrest’s proposals and our decision to appeal the Council’s original rejection of our application.

“It is almost exactly two years since our original application was submitted to now obtaining approval following a lengthy appeal so we are understandably delighted to finally be able to commence this project. Hillcrest’s new headquarter will be an iconic building for Dundee’s Technology Park incorporating many environmentally friendly and sustainable features into its design.

“Our HQ will be built by a local contractor, W.H. Brown, giving a much-needed boost to the local construction sector. Some Dundee youngsters will get part of their apprenticeship experience served on the project as W H Brown partners Hillcrest in an innovative construction industry training scheme. In the current economic climate this project is good news for Dundee and reflects Hillcrest’s confidence in its own future”
