Gowrie Care Blossoms in Duntrune

Gowrie Care’s therapeutic garden within Dawson Park was officially opened today by Stewart Hosie MP. On opening the garden Stewart Hosie commented that: “This new resource is wonderfully located and is a familiar and friendly green space. I’m sure it will provide lots of inspiration and relaxation to users and the public alike “.

The garden was handed over to Gowrie Care from Dundee City Council at the start of the summer. Damian McGowan, Managing Director Gowrie Care, commented that “Since taking ownership of the garden a lot of hard work has taken place. The garden is an excellent resource for our staff and service users. We are able to offer the people we work with a resource that engages with a variety of their senses in a number of ways.

“We offer support to over 200 people in Dundee with learning disabilities, autism, mental health issues and who are or have suffered from homelessness. As well as the obvious benefits of fresh air and exercise a number of our service users have discovered a new hobby in gardening through our therapeutic garden and have enjoyed engaging with a new group of people.”

The therapeutic garden is within Duntrune Demonstration garden and will remain open to the public as normal.
