Toolbox Dundee

 

The Toolbox Project, managed by Hillcrest Enterprise Ltd, works in partnership with Skills Development Scotland as a ‘Get Ready for Work’ (GRfW) provider and is tasked with sourcing work placements for 16-19 year olds in Dundee. These young people (trainees) are individuals who have completed their full-time education and are looking to enter the world of work.

We source work placements by engaging with local employers in ALL sectors (retail, hospitality, motor, administration, industrial, care, construction, etc.) then match suitable trainees. These work placements can last up to 13 weeks.

The benefits to an employer are:

o They get a proactive young person who is ready to work while being trained and developed
o As the Toolbox Project pays the majority of the young person’s allowance during the work placement - we ask the employer to contribute only £1 per hour (that’s £35 per week for a full-time placement!)
o On completion of the work placement the employer has the option to recruit the young person on a permanent basis (with other incentives available) – therefore providing hassle free recruitment
o Employers are proactively contributing to the training, development and employment of the age group with the largest unemployment rate

The benefits to a trainee are:

o An insight to the world of work
o Practical on the job training as well as hands-on work experience
o An opportunity to learn new skills (i.e. communication, problem solving, team work, routine of working life, etc.)
o As well as being paid up to £90 per week, the work placement allows trainees to build their employment history with the knowledge that they will have an employer reference at the end (if the employer doesn’t recruit them)
o And for trainees attending a work placement with a construction company, then The Toolbox Project also runs a course which leads to the formal qualification of an SVQ Level 1 in Construction & Civil Engineering
