Hillcrest Enterprises News
Toolbox Project
Hillcrest Enterprises (HE) is working in partnership with Dundee Employability Partnership, Scottish Enterprise and the Dundee Wider Role Alliance, to target young people aged between 16 to 19 who have left school but are currently not in training or employment.
The programme matches young people, who are interested in joining the construction industry, with participating contractors across most of the disciplines within the construction industry. The young person will work as a trainee, on the construction sites to gain valuable site experience. They will also participate in formal training to gain a Scottish Progression Award in Building Craft qualification in their chosen discipline. The site monitoring and training is carried out by HE staff.
It is hoped that by working along side time served tradesmen who value being in continuous employed, together with relevant site experience and meaningful training, the trainees at the end of the programme, will be more job ready to take up employment and training opportunities in the future, hopefully within the construction industry.
The 12 month programme commenced in April 2007 and aims to secure placements for 44 to young people over the course of the year. George Gilchrist has been employed as the programme’s employability officer.
