Bruntsfield Launch ClothesLine Project

Gowrie Care’s Bruntsfield Project held a successful open day last week which also saw the launch of their innovative ClothesLine Project.

Damian McGowan, Gowrie Care Managing Director and Councillor Edie, Convenor of Health, Social Care and Housing Committee, opened the day with praise for the project and emphasised the importance of working together to tackle homelessness. Damian McGowan commented that “Bruntsfield’s ClothesLine initiative is tackling a problem that many homeless people face. With little or no money, good quality free clothing can be hard to come by. With a bit of imagination and a lot of hard work the team at Bruntsfield has developed an idea that’s going to benefit a number of people we support.”

The ClothesLine project was made possible with a grant from Edinburgh Waste Action Programme, donations from T K Maxx and individuals, and hard work and commitment from the Bruntsfield team. An old kitchen area in Bruntsfield has been transformed into a welcoming shop where people can try on the clothes they are going to take and browse through different sections, all labelled in sizes rather than rummaging through boxes.

The open day was a great opportunity to show staff, partnering organisations and other support agencies the range of work that goes on within Bruntsfield and the different ways they deliver person centred support. Wendy Morris, Bruntsfield Project manager commented that “Every support plan is different. We work with the individual to put them at the centre of the plan and get them back on their feet. We’re always looking at new ways of working and initiatives to provide the best service that we can. We’re all looking forward to rolling the ClothesLine project out and building on its success.”

The ClothesLine project will initially be open to Gowrie care services.
